Is Portland a sanctuary city?

Is Portland a sanctuary city? Backers of Measure 105 would have you believe that undocumented immigrants can “commit crimes with impunity” in our city, while “stealing jobs” and “causing pollution” — all due to the 1987 anti-racial profiling law.

As socialists, we know that this country plays an active and continuing role in destabilizing other countries for capitalist gain. People who risked everything, including their lives, to get out of those countries don’t have the luxury of waiting for proper documentation. They don’t have time or money to apply or wait for immigration processing which takes years. When people migrate across borders, we must respect their human rights.

Right now, there are three things you can do:

  1. Vote No on Measure 105 so that we don’t open the door to racial profiling.
  2. Vote Yes on Measure 26–201, the Portland Clean Energy Fund. We begin solving the lack of jobs and environmental pollution with this fund. Instead of dividing people in a fight for jobs, we unite to work to solve the climate crisis.
  3. Write to Portland City Commissioners and demand that Portland leave the Joint Terrorism Task Force, which includes ICE. No part of our local government can cooperate with the Trump administration’s brutal deportation machine.

No human is illegal.
